Your Guide to Natural Look Carpets

One of the biggest trends this year above all else has been the classic natural home decor look. It’s one of the most enduring styles and has been around for many years whilst other trends have come and gone. Natural materials such as wool, sisal and jute in earthy, muted tones help create an open and peaceful environment. The best thing about going natural is that there are so many ranges, colours and options to choose from so you really can choose the perfect carpet that fits your lifestyle.

Natural Fibre

Jute and sisal are a natural fibre material that is hardwearing and versatile whilst giving off a natural look with lots of texture without compromising on softness underfoot. Using a simple muted tone for your carpet leaves lots of room for experimentation of bolder wall colours. There is also no need to go for the overdone white or silver carpet as they come in a range of cool, alternative colours. We love the Jute collection from Alternative carpets. Hand-harvested from the tiliaceae plant yet soft and luxurious. The range is available in tight bouclé or herringbone and is ideal for relaxing rooms in broadloom or as a rug.

Wool Ranges

If you want something a little more classic and easier to clean however, wool is your ideal choice. Subtly patterned wool is the perfect solution for busy areas of the home or if you simply want to pet-proof or child-proof your home!  When it comes to wool there’s a myriad to choose from; Cormar Carpet company do a fantastic range of wool loop carpets that are perfect to create a natural rustic effect using 100% pure New Zealand wool with two-fold or three-fold yarn, perfect for high traffic areas. Victoria Carpets also do a Natural Co-Ordinates wool range which gives you the freedom to mix 'n' match your style with two designs. Featuring 15 plain 100% wool loops in subtle shades, complemented with 6 loop stripes, this range is moth resistant and available in a variety of widths with fewer seams.

Synthetic Ranges

Finally, don’t forget about some of the fantastic synthetic ranges out there which ‘mimic’ natural fibre such as jute and sisal whilst being much easier to take care of and are more hardwearing. Synthetic ranges have become more common now, and are much more effective at looking and more importantly feeling like a real carpet so you don’t need to write off having the perfect ‘natural look’ carpet just yet! Alternative flooring offer herringbone and boucle variations in their synthetic anywhere range made from 100% polypropylene which has the visual texture of sisal but are so hard wearing and easy to clean that they are able to be fitted anywhere -  including outside!
